Ground conditions & sub-base design
Worcester sits predominantly on heavy Severn clay and alluvial silts across WR1 to WR6, particularly around St. Johns, Diglis, and the River Teme confluence. Heavy clay sub-soils expand when wet and contract during summer dry spells.
To prevent settlement and sinkage, we excavate to a deeper 225mm–250mm sub-base depth, install non-woven geotextile filter membranes, and compact MOT Type 1 aggregate in strict 75mm layers. For flood plain zones near the River Severn, we integrate Aco threshold channels and high-capacity soakaways compliant with local drainage regulations.
